Abstract: Purpose/significance New era has put forward new mission for the library, to rethinking the features of modern library, to construct the theoretical architecture of library science, and to clarify the transform direction and education goal of library science education. Method/process This paper adopted the comparative analysis and systematic analysis method to conclude the traditional library & modern library and traditional library science & modern library science. Result/conclusion Service abilities are the fundamental problem of library service in new era:from the resource ability to service ability, and from the traditional service to the new service ability, libraries need to build a new service ability system. In the new era, the disciplinary research paradigm of library science needs to shift all the time and space, and library field should promote discipline system of library science change constantly from the disciplinary nature, the research object, the development model, the core ability, the technical method attributes, and other aspects.
