Abstract： [Purpose/significance] Think Tanks, as the subject of policy experts, should provide high quality policy advice, which constitutes their core competences and values. [Method/process] Based on the observation of the current situation of the U.S. think tanks, the paper analyzed some major changes within think tanks. Several think tanks had been gradually deviated from the evidence-based research during the policy consultation process by modifying objective results to incorporate political goals. Given the slide toward politicization of the U.S. think tanks, there were two approaches to management practices recommended to take, including external forces and internal forces. In order to maintain their independence and objectivity, think tanks not only required the information transparency, but also made good use of the internal quality control and the employee incentive system. [Result/conclusion] It will take wise management and help from foundations and the civil society for U.S. think tanks to continue to maintain their strong reputation. So do Chinese think tanks. Chinese think tanks also need to protect their reputations even in the early stages, as well insist on rigorous analysis and research and provide objective policy recommendations.
